The glass eel market is very lucrative, but currently supply-driven: due to catch quotas, a limited amount of glass eels is available to eel farms. As a result, a precise market estimate is difficult to make. The current price of glass eel is about €450 per kg. Glasaal Volendam aims for a scaled-up production in the future of 25 tons per year. After deducting costs, the profit could be about 10 million per year.
