Not another moment without larvae in 2022!
Last year, considerable progress was already made in the numbers of eel larvae that could be produced and how many of them could stay alive until the start of the feeding trials. Compared to 2019/2020, this could easily reach 100x higher survival in the first 14 days after birth. We have continued this upward trend well in 2022 and we have not even had a moment this year where there were no larvae in the facility in Edam. Feed trials are also going extremely well and good results are being achieved in terms of food intake and survival. In order to keep up with all this, and to make sure that the larvae are fed 7 days a week, there are now always people from our team working on weekends as well, and every day someone stays longer in Edam to feed the larvae another evening meal. At the moment we are running on empty as there are only four of us, but it is for a good cause! We even see the first tentative signs of growing larvae, but more about this at the shareholders' meeting. We would like to cordially invite you to attend that meeting. It will take place on June 22, 2022. The invitation with agenda will soon be sent to all shareholders.
Below is a picture of something remarkable that we noticed during the last feeding trial. This larva, in addition to having a well-filled belly, also has a long string of feces coming out. While this in itself is nice to see in an animal less than an inch in size, it is also a great indication to us that the intestines of these larvae can be actively at work with our latest diet!
